High Priority Needs before the Girls Move In!

Hey friends,

Here is an updated list of needs for the home before the girls move in at the end of this month / beginning of December. If you can help financially, every bit counts. If you can help by sharing this post and spreading the word, that would help greatly since I am not in the states to do so myself.

Current needs for Reshma’s Home

Estimated cost breakdown

There will be 25 young girls, and at least 5 people on staff so most quotes are based on a 30 person quantity.

If you want to give to a “specific” area need, please email me  thereshmashome@gmail.com so that I can designate that money towards the need. Since all are priority, I’d love for you to chose where your donation goes!

  • Bunk Beds

    • Purchased 13 steel Bunk Beds for 25 girls

    • Price: $67 x 13 = $871

  • Mattresses $1,176

    • Typical mattresses are cots so I ordered foam for the girls and staff

    • Price: $42 each x 28 mattresses = $1,176

  • Sheets and Pillow Cases $300

    • Two sets for each bed

    • $300 for all 60 sets

  • Blankets for Winter and Spring $500

    • Due to the difference in climate, I will be purchasing two different types of blankets. One for the winter weather (It gets pretty cold end of November through beginning of February) and one for the Spring (it’s “cooler” to them since they are used to 100+degree heat

    • $500 for both sets of blankets (qty 60)

  • Towels $360

    • Quoted at $3 a piece for “decent” quality here and I want each girl to have 4 since there are no washing machines and they take time to hang dry

    • 120 towels @ $3.00= $360 dollars

-Shoes $390

  • Sandals are around $2 a piece, an inside and outside pair is needed here, as well as a “nice” pair for school

  • The girls will also need tennis shoes for the winter season for school $7 a piece

  • 3 pairs of sandals and 1 tennis shoe = $390 for shoes to start with

  • Clothes $400~

  • The children will need 2 school outfits, 2 “nice” outfits for outtings and church, and play and work clothes. The market here usually has shirts around $4, dresses around $6 and pants around $7-$9.

  • Since the girls will need a large amount and different items, I am putting an estimate for $400 to start and have something the girls can “come home to” on their first day here. The ongoing need for clothes will be included in the sponsorship fee as people sponsor the girls.

  • Toiletries $250

    • This is another item that I want to buy before I receive the girls so that they feel “at home” and don’t have many needs. Once they are In the home, it will be included in their Sponsorship

    • Shampoo, conditioner, soap bar, hand soap, toothpaste and toothbrush estimated at $250 for first two months 30 girls. I encourage teams to bring these type of items from the states when they can to offset the cost here. Imported items are pretty pricy.

  • Paint (interior $1,242.81) (exterior $1,534.77) total $2,777.58

    • The paint cost for the interior was $1,242.81

    • Paint cost for exterior is $1,534.77

    • Both cost include a “seal coat”, base coat, and the color. 6,000 square feet of paint!

**BUILDING FUND

The building is designed to be 3 floors at the start. We decided to postpone the 3rd floor to complete the 2 bottom floors as living quarters for the girls so that we could get them in sooner. The building fund is still an ongoing need to replace the money we used to expedite the living quarters. The need to complete the 3rd floor is still a top priority so that teams and guest can stay to counsel, train, and mentor our girls. Furthermore, the 3rd floor in the future will be used as “growth” for when the girls get older and need more space and to allow more girls to move in. This is projected to be $23,470

As I’ve been here for a few weeks now, the need for security has become even more of an issue. Drugs, violence, etc have increasingly crept closer to our living quarters. Due to the danger, and the kinds of girls we will be housing we  need to build a cement, high security wall that is locked throughout the day. We will also pay for two security guards (morning and night shifts). This security takes precedence over the completion of the building. It will be costly. But I know SO worth it. I hate it has come to this, but I cannot imagine helping girls to only bring them back into harms way. We are estimating this to be $43,000 but could be more. I am committing to covering the other Orphanage in walking distance to me as well as they are in harms way.

Staffing Responsibility and Cost:

We are estimating the monthly staff salary around $1,500

This will cover 6 people’s salary: Manager, House Mom, One Cook and One cleaning lady as well as two security guards.
